Google Drive Cloud Backup

Live System Status
/tmp/mgmalik_dbWhy Google Drive is NOT used as a Live Database (and what to use instead)
1. Race Conditions & Data Loss: Google Drive is an object file storage, not an ACID database. If 5 players click "Register" at the same second, Google Drive will overwrite the file, causing 4 registrations to vanish.
2. Slow Latency: Google Drive API calls take 1.5 to 3.0 seconds per request, which creates lag and forces users to refresh repeatedly.
3. Google API Rate Limits (429): Free Google Drive APIs block requests when tournament traffic spikes.
✓ Professional Recommendation: For 100% permanent cloud persistence across unlimited Vercel serverless cold starts, use MongoDB Atlas M0 Free Tier (free 512MB forever, takes 2 minutes to create at mongodb.com). The code in backend/utils/database.js can connect with one MONGODB_URI environment variable.
